Rourkela: A tiger has been sighted in the Bonai forest located in Odisha's Sundargarh district, with officials confirming the discovery of its pugmarks on Thursday.
Images of the tiger were captured by a trap camera set up within the forest, according to reports.
On August 25, forest officials identified the pugmarks in the Sole reserve forest area, indicating the presence of the big cat.
Lalit Kumar Patra, the divisional forest officer (DFO) for Bonai, noted, “The Royal Bengal Tiger is moving through the Sole range, likely in search of a suitable habitat for territory, food, shelter, and breeding.”
The Bonai forest is rich in natural resources, making it an ideal habitat for wildlife, he added.
To protect the tiger, field officials are conducting thorough patrols and implementing technological measures, the DFO stated.
Patra also urged local residents to refrain from any actions that could endanger the animal.
It is worth mentioning that pugmarks were previously observed near the Ujalpur range within the Sundargarh forest division.
